Příbram - Příbram plans the reconstruction of the building of the former Ore Mines at T. G. Masaryk Square, which serves the municipal police and as a venue for council meetings. Workers are currently repairing the roof of the building, but the city hall is planning a complete reconstruction in the future to convert it into a multifunctional facility with a library and an educational center. The costs will exceed 200 million crowns, and the city will apply for a grant, the mayor Jan Konvalinka (for ANO) told journalists today.
The city hall currently has a study of the reconstruction of the listed building and wants to commission the preparation of project documentation for the complete renovation. "Even though there is currently no money for this in the budget or in the medium-term budget outlook, we want to have project documentation ready for the moment when a suitable grant title might arise," Konvalinka stated. According to him, there are currently no suitable state or European grants available.
The city had to start with the roof reconstruction first, as there was water leaking into the building and the rafters were infested with wood-destroying fungus. The costs, excluding VAT, are around 10 million crowns. The prepared project had to be revised. Preservationists approved a different method by which the roof is currently being repaired. Workers must cut out the infested beams and replace them with new ones. The original ones that are not infested are left in place. According to city hall representatives, it is a highly specialized carpentry job that has proven to be more complicated than expected. The company took over the construction site at the end of August when the preparatory work began. It was anticipated to be completed in April or May of this year, but the work will eventually extend to September. The city originally wanted to also repair the basements and build an archive in them. However, according to city hall representatives, these plans did not align with the requirements of the preservationists, and the city backed down.
The late Empire-style building of the former Ore Mines dates back to 1846. Until 2006, it served the needs of the mining administration and the management of mining enterprises. From its balcony, the establishment of Czechoslovakia was ceremoniously announced in 1918. According to Konvalinka, it is one of the most valuable buildings in Příbram.
