Příbram - A modern transport terminal, which is being created by the reconstruction of the bus station in Příbram, has been put into use ahead of schedule. From Monday, ten new intercity line stands are in operation in the upper part of the station. City public transport buses depart from the new stop on Československé armády Street opposite the financial office premises, said Jiří Kubík, spokesman for the Příbram city hall, to ČTK today.

"The construction modernization of the Příbram bus station was completed at the end of last year. Now, it remains to equip and operationalize the ticket hall building. We are preparing for the complete completion and grand opening in the spring," said mayor Josef Řihák. The construction office approved the early use of the building.
The reconstruction of the bus station began in the autumn of 2008. The costs are around 60 million crowns. Of this, 92.5 percent will be covered by grants from operational programs and the state, with the rest being covered by the city.
Příbram has been striving for the modernization of the bus station for several years. The original tender was won by a company with an offer of 43.5 million crowns. At that time, the city had already been promised a grant covering 75 percent of the renovation costs, amounting to 41.6 million crowns. However, the start of work was delayed due to appeals from contest participants. Therefore, the city canceled the competition and announced a new one. A participant with a bid of 76 million crowns won this new competition. The city would not have had the funds to cover the difference between the offered price and the promised grant, so it canceled the tender again, thereby losing the grant. The city announced a new competition for the construction contractor in the summer of 2008.
The modernization of the station was based on the original project from 2004, which was adjusted. The terminal connects city public transport, bus, and train services. There will be a multifunctional building at the station with modern sanitary facilities, a room for mothers with children, an elevator for the disabled, a municipal police station, a refreshment stand, and an infobox. On the site of the bus stops on Československé armády Street, 66 parking spaces and a new stop area for public transport were created.
