Lanškroun (Orlickoústecko) - The community center in Lanškroun will be closed due to poor technical condition starting October 31. The town hall is preparing for its complete reconstruction, having already chosen architect Ladislav Vlachynský to develop a volumetric study. Construction could start in about a year, said the mayor of Lanškroun, Radim Vetchý, to reporters today.

"The requirement is such that we would like to do as little demolition as possible; we would like to fit into the existing layouts. It is bounded by the villa, which will always remain, at the end is the former hotel, which should serve as a background for associations and the activities of the Community Center. In between, there is a stage with an auditorium,” Vetchý stated. In the future, part of the activities of the Cultural Center would be moved into the building, and the restaurant should remain on the ground floor.
A construction survey revealed that the historical building with the hall and the newer hotel annex are in a neglected state, with many structures on the verge of their lifespan. For example, no larger adult ensembles should perform on stage, lest the ceiling trembles and collapses. In winter, it is also necessary to remove snow from the roof due to its low load capacity. In the past, there was even consideration of complete demolition.
The town hall estimates the cost of reconstruction at 100 to 120 million crowns. According to Vetchý, it will probably not be possible to obtain a subsidy, and the city would have to take out a loan for the construction.
The community center is located in a villa from the second half of the 19th century, next to which stands a former production hall, now a community hall. Employees of entrepreneur Rudolf Emil Langer used to manufacture gold and silver chains there. The spacious villa has served cultural purposes since the middle of the last century and was managed by the state enterprise Tesla, and later by the joint-stock company Tesla after privatization. The deteriorating villa was later purchased by the city. During the renovations, cultural and social events will have to be held at the city’s Cultural Center or other locations in the city and surrounding area.
