Prague - The creation of project documentation for the reconstruction of the Čech Bridge between the Old Town and Letná will cost the Prague company Technická správa komunikací (TSK) 36 million crowns excluding VAT, and it will be carried out by the companies Pontex and Pragoprojekt in collaboration with the Klokner Institute of the Czech Technical University in Prague (ČVUT). This follows from information published in the public procurement bulletin and in the contract registry.
According to the competition materials, the work will primarily involve the complete replacement of the bridge deck and the renewal of the anti-corrosion protection of the monument-protected bridge. The preparation of the project is expected to take 34 months, with the actual work lasting 30 months, and the estimated cost is about half a billion crowns. "The purpose of the project is to extend the lifespan of the Čech Bridge while preserving its heritage value," states the description of the intention.
The Čech Bridge was built between 1906 and 1908 according to the design of architect Jan Koula. The 169-meter-long bridge connects the Old Town and Holešovice. It features three arch trusses on two piers and rich decoration comprised of bronze sculptures and reliefs. The bridge has been a protected monument since 1958.
In recent years, the capital city has repaired the busiest Barrandov Bridge, with work completed at the end of last year. The city is also preparing to replace part of the Libeň Bridge over the river with a replica, and plans include the reconstruction of other bridges, such as the Hlávkův, Palackého, Mánesův, and Legií bridges.
