Prostějov – The Prostějov City Hall will have the buildings of the former locomotive depot demolished at the Prostějov-local train station. According to the city, the properties are in poor technical condition. CTK was informed by Mayor František Jura (ANO). The city will continue to negotiate with the Czech Railway Administration regarding the fate of the former station building, which faces demolition to the dismay of many residents.

"The buildings (of the locomotive depot) are unusable and dilapidated. The demolition will cost us, including VAT, about 1.17 million crowns," said Jura. The demolition will be carried out by the company DEMSTAV group from Hranice in the Přerov region, which submitted the most advantageous bid in the tender according to the councilors.

It is not yet clear what will happen to the neighboring building, which is also at risk of demolition. "As of today, no decision has been made regarding the fate of the station. We have met with representatives of the Czech Railway Administration, who stated that as part of the preparation for infrastructure development and reconstruction, which concerns both the main and local stations in Prostějov, they will prepare possible solutions," said the mayor's deputy Jiří Rozehnal (ANO).

According to him, proposals could emerge in the second half of this year. "We have already talked to several interested parties regarding the future use of the building, but we are waiting for clarification from the Czech Railway Administration. We acknowledge and take seriously the opinions of citizens who have unequivocally expressed support for saving the building, just like we did during the recent resolution of the area around the Cultural and Social Center," said Rozehnal.

The information about the planned demolition of the building at the Prostějov-local train station last year caused considerable discontent in the city, and a petition was prepared to preserve it. According to Jura, any potential purchase of the station building by the city will depend on the proposed conditions and the suggested price for the building and land.

The anticipated costs of reconstruction, which could reach tens of millions of crowns, as well as the possibilities for using the station building, will also play an important role in the city's decision-making. The final word will belong to the city council. According to regional press, the Prostějov City Hall is not the only one considering purchasing the station; entrepreneur Richard Benýšek is also interested.
