Svitávka (Blanensko) - The town hall in Svitávka in the Blansko region, located in the historic Löw-Beer Great Villa, has invested three million crowns in the restoration of this building over the past ten years. They would need more money for the restoration of this monument, but the grant programs are limited. Annually, they allocate a quarter of a million crowns to the building, said Mayor Martin Cetkovský (ODS) to ČTK today. "Although our Löw-Beer Great Villa is on the list of monuments, despite all our efforts, we manage to obtain only several tens of thousands of crowns each year for its restoration," said the mayor. The reconstruction is therefore gradual and slow. This year, repairs will continue with the restoration of the stucco, static securing of the balcony, and works in the Small Hall where the council meets. In the following years, it will be necessary to secure the repair of the roof, which will be challenging. The Löw-Beers belonged to the most significant Jewish families in Moravia. In Svitávka, they built a wool processing factory in 1858. The business employed 1,600 people in 1906. Thus, the Löw-Beers obtained the money to build two magnificent villas. Most members of the family died during World War II in concentration camps. The Great Villa houses the town hall, while the Small Villa is a private residence. The family also had another residence in Brno. The South Moravian Region now wants to restore it for 65 million crowns. It hopes to create an exhibition about this famous family, the Art Nouveau style, and the textile industry in Brno.
