Liberec – The reconstruction of the administrative building Uran in Liberec will take a quarter of a year longer and will be at least six million crowns more expensive. The cost for repairing the seven-story building owned by the city will thus exceed 142 million crowns, and the work will last until September. However, it is unlikely that this will be the final price or deadline. The Czech News Agency was informed about this by the mayor of Liberec, Jaroslav Zámečník (Mayors for the Liberec Region).

"The original contracted price was 136 million crowns, but we have now uncovered some additional necessary work, especially the reconstruction of the electrical installation, which is outdated. So we have now approved an additional increase of six million crowns, bringing the price to 142 million crowns and extending the construction period by three months," said the mayor. According to him, they will still consider whether to include the complete reconstruction of the elevators and sanitary facilities, which are also not in good condition. This would increase the price by an additional approximately 12 million crowns and extend the construction period until the end of November.

The reconstruction of the Uran building, located on 1st May Street next to the bus station, started last year at the end of the summer holidays. Of the administrative buildings in Liberec, it is in the worst condition. The original intention was to only repair the façade, which posed a threat to the surroundings. For several years, there was even protective scaffolding around the office building to prevent anything from falling onto the sidewalk leading to the train station. However, during the project preparation for the reconstruction, it became evident that the internal parts of the building, built in 1969, were also in inadequate condition, and partial modernization would need to be included in this construction. The new features will include ventilation, electrical installation, and central heating.

The ground floor will also undergo reconstruction, where there will be a new facility for the bus station. According to Zámečník, they will try to ensure that this facility is operational even before the building reconstruction is completed. The facility for the bus station has been in a temporary structure made of construction cells for almost 30 years.

Due to the repairs, most of the officials from Uran have moved to alternative spaces. The social department and vehicle registration are in rented spaces in the S tower building, while employees of the social and housing policy department are in the New Magistrate building. Thus, only the municipal police remains in Uran.
