Karlovy Vary - The reconstruction of the Imperial Spa in Karlovy Vary will likely be divided into two phases by the Karlovy Vary Region. This emerged from discussions with conservationists. The region would like to start the actual restoration of the national cultural monument immediately after the conclusion of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in July next year, regional governor Jana Vildumetzová (ANO) told reporters today.
The current project envisions that some of the original spa baths, which are among the most valuable parts of the building, would be used for apartments. However, both conservationists and the region would prefer spa utilization. "The architect who worked on the project for the Imperial Spa suggested that the project be divided into two phases. The first would be the part where the Zander Hall and the surrounding floors are located. The second part is the problematic one, where the baths and the most valuable sections are," Vildumetzová stated.
The effort to accommodate a fully functional concert hall for the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra in the Imperial Spa seems impractical due to conservationists. It would disrupt the surrounding masonry and particularly the former bath areas. However, the symphony musicians could utilize a smaller multipurpose hall and have so-called tuning rooms in some of the spaces.
The Karlovy Vary Region still hopes that during the approval of the state budget, they will be able to increase the promised subsidy of 100 million crowns to 250 million. Together with 200 million from the region and 100 million from the city, this would secure financing without the need to utilize European funds, which would significantly restrict the potential uses of the building.
