Pelhřimov - Today, a map marking 507 towers and observation points in the Czech Republic was entered into the Czech Book of Records. Miroslav Marek from the Dobrý den agency, which manages the database of Czech records, told ČTK. The map was presented today at the launch of the fourth year of the Month of Towers and Observation Points. Its baptism took place in the Pelhřimov Museum of Records and Curiosities, which is also located in the tower, in the five-story Lower Gate by the square. The Month of Towers and Observation Points supports the extension of the tourist season. It takes place between two national holidays, between today's St. Wenceslas Day and October 28. This year, 139 destinations have signed up, including three towers in Austria and one in Slovakia. "Around 35 towers and observation points are hosting climbs with personalities from sports and culture today," added Marcel Goetz, chairman of the Czech Union of Recreational Sports, which oversees the event. With the Pelhřimov agency Dobrý den, the organizers of the Month of Towers and Observation Points are preparing another record. In three years, on the 100th anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia, Czech flags should fly on as many locations as possible in the Czech Republic on October 28. The Dobrý den agency has already recorded thousands of records. Several entries also relate to maps. For example, the largest tourist map was commissioned by the Department of Geoinformatics at Palacký University in Olomouc. The map, consisting of two pieces, is three meters wide and 7.6 meters long, containing over 1.3 million objects. A world novelty is the embroidered map of Europe by Miroslav Lakomý. He worked on the piece measuring 103 by 82 centimeters for four years. During the 2000 hours dedicated to its embroidery, he made 603,900 stitches.
