Prague - On the state holiday Tuesday, October 28, the Residence of the Mayor of the Capital City of Prague will open to the public again after four years. The Prague City Hall informed CTK about it. Interested visitors will be able to view the residence, located in the same building as the city library at Mariánské náměstí, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
The first floor will be open to visitors, which includes the main hall, ladies' and gentlemen's lounges, and the back dining room. A guide will be available in each hall. At 3:45 PM, the mayor Pavel Bém will also greet the guests.
The residence was last opened to the public on October 28, 2004, when nearly 800 people visited it.
The city library building was constructed between 1925 and 1928. The project and artistic decoration of the building was designed by architect František Roith. The representative spaces of the residence occupy about one-fifth of the library complex. They are accessed through a separate entrance from the corner of Žatecká and Platnéřská streets. The first and second floors are connected by a staircase and a spacious elevator.
The Prague mayors primarily use the residence for official and representative events. In the main hall, the current mayor welcomes guests and signs important documents. The residence is furnished with original furniture and decor. Initially, it also served as the mayor's residence. However, only one mayor lived there, Karel Baxa, who led the metropolis from 1919 to 1937.
