Říčany - Říčany near Prague have built a wooden walkway over the Mlýnský pond, which connects the garden by the Hus library at Masaryk Square with Podhrázská Street. The path is 2.5 meters wide and is equipped with rest areas, lighting, and frost sensors. The costs were nearly 13 million crowns excluding VAT, and the completion is expected at the end of April, said the spokesperson of the town hall, Helena Vlnařová.

The public could walk for the first time along the long wooden footbridge leading across the pond and along its shores the weekend before last, when it was exceptionally opened. "Currently, minor work on the installation of security lighting is being completed. Afterwards, the pier will be officially open every day," added the spokesperson.

The construction was challenging, according to the town hall. It was necessary to drain the pond and let the bottom dry. Some supporting piles were drilled up to eight meters deep. The aim was to create a place for rest, observing the surface of the pond, and at the same time to shorten the walking route from Masaryk Square to the areas around Podhrázská, Kolovratská, and Březinova streets. Thanks to the new pier, it is also easier to reach the Relaxing Valley near the Říčanský brook, where the town has received a site of the regional road administration and maintenance free of charge from the Central Bohemian Region and wants to create a park there. The footbridge also provides a direct connection to the bike path from Mnichovice to Kolovrat.
