Roudnice nad Labem (Litoměřice) - The leadership of the Roudnice city hall wants to hold a local referendum about the local castle this autumn, alongside the elections to the Chamber of Deputies. The monument currently belongs to the noble family Lobkowicz, and the city hall wants to ask the residents of Roudnice for their opinion on whether it should buy it from them. ČTK was informed about this today by the city's spokesperson, Tomáš Pokorný.
According to the city hall officials, people should decide in local referendums on extraordinary matters of the city, which allegedly includes acquiring and operating such a large and significant property as the castle. According to Mayor Josef Bakeš, city representatives have already discussed with the representatives of the noble family, who supposedly are willing to sell the castle to the city. The price has not yet been disclosed.
The leadership of the Roudnice city hall has already created a working group to prepare proposals for the specific use of the castle buildings. The goal is said to be to revitalize the castle and integrate it into the life of the city. This year, for example, the city, in agreement with the current owners, opened the castle park to the public.
The Roudnice castle dates back to the 17th century, replacing the castle that originally stood here. The castle was nationalized in 1948, and its inventory was moved to other monuments. Since 1957, it housed a military conservatory. The Ministry of Defense abolished it at the end of last August and handed over the castle property to the Lobkowicz family.
