Tábor - In August, the operation of the newly built Hýlačka lookout tower in Tábor, which was destroyed by fire, is expected to begin. The original wooden structure of the building will be replaced with steel. The cost of about seven million crowns will be covered by a fundraising campaign organized by the Czech Tourist Club, contributions from the city of Tábor, the South Bohemian Region, and insurance. Radek Přílepek from the Tábor Czech Tourist Club informed ČTK about this.
“The deadline for completing the entire lookout tower is by July 15,” he stated. According to him, the steel structure is being manufactured by a company that won the tender. Initial work has already started at the site where the lookout tower will stand.
Přílepek mentioned that volunteers can contribute to the 136 steps of the lookout tower. Interested parties can write to the email [email protected]. For an amount starting from 2000 crowns, the donor's name will be inscribed on a step. The label will be made of stainless steel and will accommodate both the first and last name. “We will also try to auction off some steps,” Přílepek stated.
The Hýlačka lookout tower was built in 1920 in the shape of a Hussite watchtower and was located in the Tábor district of Větrovy. It was commissioned by the Tábor Tourist Club, which reacquired the lookout tower from Svazarm in 1990 and then reopened it to the public. The lookout tower was registered as a cultural monument since 1995. In January 2012, the lookout tower was destroyed by fire.
