Buštěhrad (Kladensko) - The Baroque brewery in the village of Buštěhrad in the Kladno region is facing demolition. Its owner, the company Level, plans to demolish the partially devastated complex. The Buštěhrad Civic Association and local representatives are protesting against this. Daniela Javorčeková, a representative of the association, told ČTK. The company Level announced its intention to demolish the architectural and urban landmark of the town last year. The Buštěhrad Civic Association subsequently submitted a proposal for heritage protection to the Ministry of Culture; however, the ministry recognized only part of the brewery and the former old school as a heritage site. "We request a review of the Ministry of Culture's decision and are filing a complaint regarding its decision with the ombudsman Otakar Motejl," Javorčeková said. However, she is aware that members of the association learned of the ministry's decision too late and the deadline for appeal has expired. The company has already filed a demolition notification with the Kladno City Hall. The city hall has a thirty-day period to reject it. According to the hall's spokesperson Petra Kučerová, the office will likely issue a favorable opinion on the demolition of buildings not protected as heritage. In Buštěhrad, a petition against the plan to demolish the brewery is available, and its organizers plan to submit it to the Kladno City Hall this week. On the site of the brewery, the Level company, which has so far used the complex as storage, is reportedly planning to build apartment buildings. The company has not officially commented on the matter. The Buštěhrad City Office is trying to prevent the demolition by requesting the National Heritage Institute to declare protective zones around the parts of the brewery that were declared as heritage. If the office complies with the request, it would likely prevent the demolition and construction modifications as well. The oldest record of the Buštěhrad brewery dates back to 1548. During the Thirty Years' War, the brewery was devastated and was restored in 1633. In 1755, it was rebuilt by Anselm Lurag, who also participated in the construction of the Buštěhrad castle. The brewery was gradually expanded and modernized. From 1847 it was owned by the Habsburgs, and in 1918 it became state property. The last beer was dispatched from here in September 1967. In 1993, the Level company acquired the complex at auction.
