Buštěhrad (Kladensko) - The Kladno municipal office has extended the validity of the demolition permit for the Baroque brewery in nearby Buštěhrad by a year, which expired on January 31 of this year. CTK was informed by city hall spokesman Vilém Frček. The owner of the area is the company Level, which originally planned to build apartment buildings there. During the six years since the plan was created, some local residents opposed the demolition of the building.

The owners requested an extension due to the complexity of the decision regarding the use of the building, Frček stated. According to company representative Pavla Ruml, it is not yet definitively clear what and who will build on the site. He was also unable to say whether the former brewery would have to give way to the construction or be part of it. "So far, it has never been pushed to a stage where we could say that a decision has been made," Ruml told CTK. For further information, he referred to the company's management, which did not respond to inquiries.
The civic association Buštěhrad for itself opposes the potential demolition of the building, claiming that the building has immense cultural-historical and aesthetic significance. Association representative Daniela Javorčeková stated that three years ago, a competition took place in which around 60 student proposals for the utilization of the area were submitted. Since then, nothing has reportedly happened. "I understand it as the investor not having the funds to do anything with it. It’s an open question whether they are planning something that we do not know about, or whether they just didn’t want to let the permit expire, since they already have it," Javorčeková said.
The oldest record of the Buštěhrad brewery dates back to 1548. During the Thirty Years' War, the brewery was devastated and was restored in 1633. In the mid-18th century, it was rebuilt by Anselmo Lurago, who also participated in the construction of the Buštěhrad castle. The brewery was gradually expanded and modernized. From 1847, it was owned by the Habsburgs, and in 1918 it was transferred to the state. The last beer was dispatched from there in September 1967. The current owners acquired it at auction in 1993.
