Brno - Private investors should be involved in the construction and operation of the Janáček Cultural Center in Brno. A private investor is expected to build underground garages for 400 million crowns. The International Hotel, which is adjacent to the construction site, could organize the hosting of congresses in the center after the construction is completed. This was stated today by the mayor's deputy Daniel Rychnovský.
Setting future operations is important. Some Brno politicians are not particularly supportive of the concert hall for the Brno Philharmonic, as they are concerned about the later operational costs. However, according to Rychnovský, the income from organizing congresses should cover the operational costs of loss-making culture.
Rychnovský, who has been the mayor's deputy since May and has identified the construction of the concert hall as a priority, is now seeking funds for the construction. "One source should be the city of Brno, which has declared that it is prepared to provide 200 million crowns. I would like to achieve a similar amount from the region," Rychnovský told ČTK. He aims to obtain another 400 million crowns from the state.
The construction of the concert and congress hall will cost 800 million crowns. The underground garages will cost another 400 million crowns, but according to the deputy, there will be no problem financing them. "Every investor will enter into this. They will build garages that will then earn money for them and the costs will be recouped," he stated. The Janáček Cultural Center is to be located in the very center of Brno next to the Besední House.
Governor Stanislav Juránek today neither confirmed nor denied the promise of funds. According to him, what is essential for the region is the commitment from Brno that it will allocate one billion crowns from its budget for construction related to the relocation of the train station. The money is to be used for the construction of a transfer hub for regional transport. "As a region, we are not able to support all the investments that Brno has," he said. However, when representatives of the city say that they consider the construction of the concert hall to be a priority, regional officials will try to allocate funds.
