Havlíčkův Brod – The Mezi stromy association did not receive a state grant for the construction of a inpatient hospice in Havlíčkův Brod, and today returned the land to the city. Mayor Jan Tecl (ODS) said to the councilors on that occasion that he does not consider the plan for the hospice construction in the city as lost. He mentioned that, according to discussions he participates in, the project could be taken over by the region or its hospital in Havlíčkův Brod.
"There is an expectation that if it is a regional facility or some regional institution, there is a chance to obtain the much-needed grant and the project could be realized," said Tecl.
Vysočina is the last region in the country without any brick-and-mortar hospice. The association for the inpatient hospice Mezi stromy has been striving for the construction since 2015. Initially, they tried to find a location in the regional city of Jihlava but were unsuccessful at the town hall. Havlíčkův Brod promised the association a plot of land two years ago.
Subsequently, the association also received a promise from the Vysočina Region to contribute 20 million crowns for the construction of a hospice with 20 beds, provided that it is also supported by the Ministry of Health. However, the association ultimately did not receive the money from the ministry. According to previous information from the association members, the project's costs were estimated to be around 70 million crowns.
Today, Tecl said of the association members that they are "passionate individuals" who do their utmost for the cause. He anticipates that if the region or its organization takes over the construction of the hospice, they will collaborate with the association in operating the hospice.
Discussions about the possible continuation of the project were confirmed last week by the Deputy Governor of the Vysočina Region, Vladimír Novotný (ČSSD). He stated that the region is interested in having at least one brick-and-mortar hospice in Vysočina and that it should be in Havlíčkův Brod. According to the deputy, the region would like to negotiate with the Ministry of Health about the conditions under which the hospice could be supported. They are also exploring the possibilities of drawing other grants.
