Rožnov pod Radhoštěm (Vsetín region) - The construction of the Jurkovič lookout tower in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm in the Vsetín region is nearing completion. The new tourist destination, designed by the famous architect Dušan Jurkovič in 1896, is expected to be finished by the end of this year. The investment in the 18-meter tall lookout tower exceeded ten million crowns. The majority of the funding was obtained by the municipality from European funds and foundations. This was stated by the municipality spokesperson Tomáš Gross. The main goal of Rožnov pod Radhoštěm was to make the city and the entire microregion more attractive and to attract more tourists or admirers of Jurkovič's architectural style. The lookout tower is rising on Karlův hill above the Valašská village, which is part of the Valašské museum in nature's open-air museum. To remind future generations of the events in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm this year, the municipality placed several items in the dome of the lookout tower's roof. "In the tube, there is a bottle of Valašská plum brandy, information about the history of the plans for the lookout tower's construction, a list of the members of the city council, and the current issue of Spektrum Rožnovska," Gross listed. "I assume that it will be at least a hundred years before anyone looks into the tube. So our successors will have a pleasant surprise waiting for them," said Deputy Mayor Alois Vychodil. The Jurkovič lookout tower will welcome its first visitors before the start of the summer season of 2012. People can also admire the unique Jurkovič style in Pustevny near Radhošť, where the Libušín and Maměnka buildings are located. In the Zlín region, structures designed by Jurkovič can also be seen in the spa town of Luhačovice.
