Havlíčkův Brod – The construction of the new regional library in Havlíčkův Brod is ahead of schedule. If the builders can maintain their pace, the work could be completed a few weeks earlier. This was stated by Martin Kukla (ANO), the Deputy Governor of the Vysočina Region, after today’s inspection day at the construction site. The new library, which costs 143 million crowns, is expected to be completed by July 2020. Next to it, workers are also building a parking garage, which could start operating as soon as this year.
"We are tentatively discussing that the parking garage might possibly be operational by autumn," said Jan Tecl (ODS), the mayor of Havlíčkův Brod, to ČTK. The construction of the garage, which will have almost a hundred parking spaces, is financed by the city. The municipal office is currently negotiating the possibility of early usage. The plot near the Ostrov cultural center, where the library is being built, previously served as a parking area for cars.
The city is also considering the use of the Old Town Hall in the square, from which the regional library will relocate. The city council managed a working group for this reason. According to the mayor, there are numerous proposals for the use of the historic building. "It won't be that we won't know what to do with it. Rather, we will have to choose what will be the best," he said.
The Old Town Hall has too little space for the regional library, which also has to use rented spaces. The need for a new building has been discussed for many years. Preparations picked up speed when the region, which establishes the library, agreed to cooperate with the city. The construction of the new three-story library building began last August, carried out by the company Zlínstav.
The reinforced concrete skeleton of the new building stands on pillars driven up to 11 meters deep. "As of today, 95 percent of all monolithic construction is completed," Kukla stated. Next month, crafts will come into play, and work on the facades will begin.
