Brno - The Building of the Year for the South Moravian Region for last year includes, for example, a hotel at the Brno Automotodrome and a multifunctional building on Bratislavská Street in Brno. The competition is traditionally announced by the South Moravian Association of Entrepreneurs in Construction. There were competitions in seven categories. Representatives of the association informed journalists today at the construction fairs in Brno.

The Grid Hotel at the Automotodrome won in the public utility category, while the building on Bratislavská won among residential buildings. The new technology center in Černá Hora in the Blanensko region impressed the jury in the industrial buildings category. The best engineering structure is the modification of the Břeclav - Znojmo railway line, while the most successful renovation was the restoration of a historical building in Miroslav. Among the water management structures, the construction on Palackého Hill in Brno was the most noteworthy.

Experts also awarded special prizes. For example, a new wine barn, which is an extensive complex in Valtice, received one. The magazine Stavebnictví awarded the restoration of the Chapel of St. Florian in Bzenec in the Hodonín region, which is set to be consecrated at the beginning of May.

The original chapel was built at the Old Castle in 1703. According to the website www.starybzenec.cz, it was founded by Count Erdman Pruskovský of Pruskovo, who had the chapel built on the site of the original Gothic castle. The chapel was in the Baroque style. In 1915, lightning struck the sanctuary, and the monument had to be restored. The end of World War II then brought disaster. The retreating German troops mined and destroyed the structure on April 18, 1945. The goal was to prevent its use as an observation post and also to eliminate it as a significant landmark in the area.
