Strakonice – Strakonice plans to build a new funeral hall, with estimated costs of 30 million korunas. It would be located where the current administrative building stands, which the town hall would demolish. Construction could begin as early as 2024. The city also wants to renovate the cemetery, said Deputy Mayor Rudolf Oberfalcer (Strakonice Public). An architectural study for the new hall has already been created, which was discussed by the councilors today.
"It resonates among the older generation that a new hall is deserved, and also the cemetery itself needs to have its pathways repaired. We have noted dissatisfaction with the state of the funeral hall, which has long since seen better days. From the initial intention to improve the interior, we began to consider whether it would be better to build a new one. A space was sought, and a suitable reserve was found, where we could build it (the hall) outside the cemetery," said the deputy mayor.
The new hall could be where the current building stands, where funerals are arranged. Ceremonies would be held in the old hall until the city completes the new one. According to Oberfalcer, the current hall also has insufficient space for a columbarium, and there are also a lack of places for new graves in the cemetery. The new hall was designed by the A6 studio, led by architect Radek Šíma. According to the deputy mayor, he has already designed one hall in Turnov, and the studio also has a contract for the Dvorecký Bridge in Prague.
Recently, Vodňany in the Strakonice region opened a new funeral hall. It replaced the original one, which the city had to demolish due to poor technical condition. It cost about 15 million korunas. It is one of the steps toward the renovation of the cemetery that the city is preparing. The cemetery began renovations in June with Český Krumlov. The town hall divided the renovation into three phases, which will be completed in the autumn of 2023. The costs will be 45 million korunas. The renovation of the ceremonial hall is also ongoing there.
Strakonice, with a population of about 23,000 people, has a budget this year with revenues of 562.7 million and expenditures of 650.9 million CZK. The budget deficit of 88.2 million is covered by resources from previous years. Major investments include the renovation of the pool, the ice rink, Zvolenská street, and the construction of a new skatepark. The city planned capital expenditures of nearly 170 million for this year. Some of last year's investments have been carried over to this year.
