Strakonice - Strakonice wants to build a new funeral hall. The city council will announce a public tender for the project documentation, which should be completed by the second half of next year. The construction costs will be 30 to 40 million crowns, said deputy mayor Rudolf Oberfalcer (Strakonická Veřejnost) to ČTK today. The new funeral hall will be built at the location of the current administrative building, which the city plans to demolish. The city already has an architectural study of the new hall, which was discussed by the councilors last year.
"We want to have project documentation for the building permit. The architectural study serves as a basis. We want a new building. The existing hall has seen its best days; we need something more dignified. This will also free up space for a columbarium, which we are currently lacking. A columbarium could be created in place of the current ceremonial hall, which will then be removed. There is demand for it," said the deputy mayor.
The city has previously noted dissatisfaction with the state of the funeral hall. The new one could be built where the building currently stands that arranges funerals. Ceremonies would be held in the old hall until the city completes the new one. According to Oberfalcer, there is also insufficient space for a columbarium in the current hall, and there is a shortage of places for new graves in the cemetery. The new hall has been designed by the A6 studio, led by architect Radek Šíma. According to the deputy mayor, he has already designed one hall in Turnov.
Last year, Vodňany in South Bohemia opened a new funeral hall on Strakonice. They paid about 15 million crowns for it. Český Krumlov has been renovating its cemetery since last year. The renovation is expected to be completed this year, said Krumlov's deputy mayor Zbyněk Toman (ODS) to ČTK today.
Strakonice, which has a population of about 23,000, has a budget this year with revenues of 622.1 million and expenditures of 704.6 million crowns. The deficit of 82.4 million will be covered from funds from previous years. The main investment will be the renovation of Volyňská Street, which will take a year and a half and the city estimates costs of 120 million crowns for it. The city has also allocated 15 million crowns for the purchase of ten percent of the shares of the heating plant, after which it will be its sole owner.
