Strakonice – Strakonice plans to build a new funeral hall. The council decided today to have a study completed for its construction. The rough cost estimate is 30 million crowns. The hall is outdated, and the entire cemetery will need repairs as well. This was stated by Deputy Mayor Rudolf Oberfalcer (Strakonická Veřejnost).
The council today discussed the architectural study with two proposals: either to renovate the funeral hall or to build a new one. They received two options with a recommendation from the development department to construct a new one. "We chose to complete the study for a new hall. The (current) hall is morally outdated, the cemetery as a whole needs revitalization, and the funeral hall is one aspect of that. It is a hall that is forty, maybe fifty years old, and it needs renewal," said the Deputy Mayor.
According to him, the biggest advantage of the new hall is that mourning ceremonies can continue to be held until the new one is built. The operation will not be interrupted, as the new building is intended to be located elsewhere than the old one. As indicated in the documents for the council, the new hall could be located where the current operational facility of the cemetery administration is.
The ceremonial hall was renovated in the spring by Český Krumlov for two million crowns. It has new doors, lighting, enhanced facilities, and wheelchair access. Looking ahead, the city hall plans to build a new ceremonial hall. Next year, Krumlov aims to complete renovations of the cemetery, including pathways and green space restoration, with costs amounting to 43 million crowns.
Strakonice, which has a population of about 23,000, is operating this year with a deficit budget with planned revenues of 513.8 million crowns and expenditures of 623 million. The deficit is 109.2 million, and the city will cover it with funds from previous years.
