Kladno – The roof structure of the Kladno ice rink, which is undergoing extensive reconstruction, is nearly complete. The covering will consist of several layers of metal sheets. Currently, the laying of the first layer is underway, spokesperson for the Kladno city hall Lenka Růžková informed today in response to a query by ČTK. The reconstruction of the stadium is the largest city investment in Kladno this year, with a total cost exceeding 200 million crowns.

In total, at least one-third of all work is completed. According to the press spokesman for Kladno Knights, Lukáš Jůdl, the following work will depend on the progress of winter. "Shortly after the end of the season, we might slowly move into the administrative building. I can therefore confirm that we definitely will not return to the ice rink this ongoing season," Jůdl stated. According to him, even if the reconstruction were completed during the final matches of the season, any last-minute changes would be hectic, and the club wants to prepare properly for their return in the next season.

The roof reconstruction has been planned by the city for many years; the dismantling began in May this year, after which the city discovered the actual condition of some parts of the stadium, which is among the oldest in the country. Due to complications with the structure of the stadium building, a metal ring had to be manufactured additionally to reinforce the building. Only after that was it possible to start building the new roof. Part of the stadium repair includes restoring its walls; work is currently underway on repairing and insulating the façade and replacing the windows.

It should be completely finished by next summer, so Kladno hockey players should play their next season at home. They are currently using the stadium in Chomutov for their home games.
