Zlín - Students of the Brno Faculty of Architecture will prepare studies of selected areas in the center of Vsetín. The future architects have the task of humanizing and making more attractive the spaces designated by the Vsetín city councillors in their student projects. The city plans to redesign Freedom Square, Upper Square, and the area in front of the town hall soon. The city council is also interested in modifying selected streets and roundabouts in the center, said city hall spokesperson Eva Stejskalová today.

Architectural studies will be created with a clear goal. "We want to bring back feeling, comfort, and spontaneity to the appearance of cities, while deepening the relationship of people to their city," stated architect and assistant professor of urbanism studio Petr Hurník.
This is how students have already tackled and presented prestigious areas in several European capitals, such as Vienna, Berlin, and are currently preparing studies for Paris as well. Additionally, they have also shaped various spaces in Brno and the centers of surrounding municipalities. "We started this project in 2000 and have very good experiences with it; many ideas from our students have already been implemented," Hurník added.
The studies, which should be very illustrative, are expected to be completed early next year so they can be presented in February at a city council meeting and in the local cinema. The public will also be informed directly at the locations they concern. "In May, so-called happenings will take place for random passersby, during which people will be able to express their opinions on individual proposals, thereby determining the future face of the city in which they live," said Petr Kozel, project manager of Local Agenda 21, under which the architectural proposals are realized.
The architectural studies will also be presented by future architects at the Biennale of Brno Urban Days and will serve as foundational materials for developing investment projects supporting tourism for the European Union structural funds.
