Třinec-Guty - Carpenters are completing the rough construction of the replica of the burned church in Guty in the Frýdek-Místek region. The shingle roof is currently being finished, and preparations are underway for the installation of the belfry on the tower. Work on the rough construction is expected to be completed next week. Milan Chudej from the construction department of the Ostrava-Opava diocese told ČTK today. The 16th-century church burned down three years ago. The fire was intentionally set by three young men.
"The outer walls are already finished. The laying of the shingle roof is being completed. Next week, preparations are being made to lift the belfry onto the tower. This will complete the rough construction," said Chudej. Work will then continue with the installation of windows and doors and then the interior of the church.
It is expected to be completed by May next year, with the first service scheduled to take place on May 23. The consecration of the church is also planned for this date. The rough construction of the church will cost 20 million crowns, with an additional six to seven million for equipment and technical provisions.
The 16th-century church burned down on the night of August 2, 2017. The fire caused damage of around 20 million crowns. The regional court in Ostrava sentenced three young men from the Ostrava and Frýdek-Místek regions to 3.5 years, eight, and nine years in prison for setting the church on fire. The harshest sentence was given to the young man who masterminded the act. The lightest sentence was given to the boy who set the building on fire, who was not of legal age at the time of the act. The eight-year sentence was given to the driver who brought them to the scene.
