Kruh is releasing its new publication dedicated to progressive Belgian architecture. The seventh anthology, Texts on Architecture 19, showcases the work of contemporary Flemish architects who spoke in Prague in 2019 as part of our lecture series. In the publication, you will find interviews with these personalities, transcripts of the best events from that year at Kruh, as well as original texts published for the first time in our republic. A significant portion of the book features photographs of realizations and sketches. How does the award-winning architect Jan de Vylder approach his work? How is clay constructed, and how can recycling be applied in architecture? Why is Flanders the cradle of contemporary architecture? You will find answers to these questions in this new anthology. The publication by graphic designer Petr Babák presents the most important Flemish studios and also illustrates the crucial role of architects in current societal issues. One section of the anthology is dedicated to architect Jan de Vylder, who intentionally works with incompleteness. For his project of the pavilion for the Caritas Psychiatric Clinic in Melle, he won the Silver Lion at the 2018 Venice Biennale of Architecture, among other awards. The book will also feature an interview with Xaveer De Geyter from the studio XDGA, who worked for ten years at the architectural office OMA Rem Koolhaas. The approach of the selected studios uniquely combines practice with laboratory research. Offices like BC architects or Rotor realize or develop new products by recycling others, even for smaller projects. The anthology also introduces progressive structural engineer Guy Mouton, who advocates for collaboration with architects from the project's inception. Most of the firms represented also focus on renovations, which they view as both a challenge and a path to sustainability. This includes the conversion of former Citroën garages into the new cultural center KANAL – Centre Pompidou in Brussels. The anthology gives readers the opportunity to gain deeper insight into the contemporary architectural scene through interviews, theoretical texts, and transcripts of lectures by those who create it. The publication can now be pre-ordered at the email address [email protected] for a favorable price of 300 CZK. It will be available for pickup from December 21, 2021, at Blanická 9, Prague 2 – Vinohrady.
