Tišnov (Brno Region) - This year, the sgraffito on the town hall's facade in Tišnov will be restored. The depictions of historical events from the city's history are in such poor condition that they would likely not survive until next summer without repair. According to Mayor František Svoboda (KDU-ČSL), the facade was repaired less than 20 years ago. However, he claims that the town hall building is constructed in such a way that without intervention in the structure, the facade, especially on the northern side, will continue to suffer, he told ČTK. The town hall building has the character of structures built in the 18th century but dates back to 1905. The historicizing style was chosen by the author Vladimir Fišer. The sgraffito on the outer wall captures events from the city's history, for instance, how the abbess of the Porta Coeli monastery, Barbora Konická of Švábenice, granted privileges to Tišnov in 1554. Another sgraffito depicts Christmas Eve in 1620 when mercenaries returning from the Battle of White Mountain killed the Tišnov city council members. On the eastern side of the building, there is an inscription "This house shall last until the end of the world, Tišnov residents will remain for four years". The restoration of the facade will cost around 600,000 crowns, with one-third allocated for the construction, rental, and dismantling of scaffolding. The Tišnov town hall is a popular venue for weddings. The city expanded it in 2003 with an annex featuring a historicizing facade. Heritage protectors decided that the new wing had to connect spiritually with the hundred-year-old building. According to Svoboda, the result was successful, as evidenced by the popularity of the town hall among couples.
