Brno – Brno will build a parking lot with 80 spaces at the crematorium on Jihlavská Street. This was stated today by the mayor's deputy Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL) in a press release. The estimated costs are 42 million crowns. The construction will include a road leading to the tram line. Work could begin in early 2023.
The council approved today the investment plan for the construction of the parking lot opposite the entrance to the crematorium. "Currently, the crematorium on Jihlavská Street offers parking directly in the area in front of the building. However, the capacity is often insufficient, and people park their cars on the unpaved area opposite the entrance to the premises. We would like to increase the comfort of visitors; for this reason, an investment plan has been developed for the construction of the parking lot," said Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS).
There are several reasons for changing the parking situation. "We responded to suggestions from citizens and the Cemetery Administration of the City of Brno. The approved plan today includes the construction of 80 parking spaces, of which four will be designated for the disabled. The surface of the parking lot is designed from drainage paving with curbs, which will allow necessary infiltration of rainwater," said Hladík.
Due to the significant height difference, a reinforced concrete retaining wall approximately 175 meters long will be constructed, with an expected average height of six meters. There will be greenery around the parking lot. The construction will include a road leading to the tram line. "The surface of the roadway is expected to be asphalt, approximately 50 meters long and 4.5 meters wide. The roadway will be drained into the adjacent greenery. During the construction of the parking lot, it is necessary to respect the width and spatial arrangement of the planned bike path and sidewalk, which will run parallel to Jihlavská Street. The total costs of the entire construction are estimated at 42 million crowns," added councilor for transportation Petr Kratochvíl.
