Brno - In the coming years, Brno plans to build a parking garage estimated to cost 114 million crowns on Žlutý kopec near the Masaryk Oncology Institute. It is expected to provide 242 spaces. During the day, they would be used by patients and visitors to the institute, and in the evening the garage would serve for residential parking, said Brno's transportation councilor Petr Kratochvíl (ODS) to journalists today. The institute has been striving for a parking garage for many years.

Brno's councilors today approved a memorandum of cooperation between the city and the oncology institute. "The Žlutý kopec area has long provided fewer parking spaces than are needed. In addition to the people who live here, visitors to the Masaryk Oncology Institute also park here," stated Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS).

According to her, the city examined the possibility of placing the parking garage on Tomešová Street. "Given the proximity of the water reservoir, we abandoned this idea and focused on the Tvrdého locality. Part of the land on which the parking garage would stand is owned by the state, and it can be managed by the Masaryk Oncology Institute. Therefore, the memorandum was created to regulate the terms of cooperation," Vaňková said.

The specific method of settlement will still be discussed. "Cooperation with the institute is an important aspect, without which the parking capacity could not be created. The city's task will be to secure project documentation and necessary permits, ensure financing, select a contractor, and after completion and approval, ensure operation," added Kratochvíl.

The Masaryk Oncology Institute is the largest oncology facility in the Czech Republic. It has over 250 beds. Annually, it records about 4,000 new patients, 10,000 hospitalizations, and a quarter of a million outpatient treatments.
