Brno - Brno wants to build parking garages with several hundred spaces at seven hospitals in the next six years, costing hundreds of millions of crowns. The construction could be undertaken by the city, the hospitals, or other investors, said the mayor's deputy Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL) to journalists today. There are issues with parking at hospitals. The garages could also be used at night for residents or as park and ride (P+R), where cars can be parked and public transportation used to reach the city center. The city will prepare a comprehensive document to map the parking options at hospitals.

The document was approved today by the city council, and Hladík is responsible for it. Departments of transportation, property, health, and investments will collaborate on it.

Parking facilities should be created at the Faculty of Medicine Brno, the Faculty Hospital of Saint Anne, the Masaryk Oncology Institute, the Military Hospital, the Children's Hospital, and the City-established Trauma Hospital and the Hospital of the Merciful Brothers. "Today, the situation is such that there is no large-capacity parking facility at hospitals; only the Faculty of Medicine Brno has a surface parking lot in Bohunice. In the foreseeable future of a few years, we want to establish parking garages at all hospitals," Hladík stated.

According to him, the city does not always have to be the investor. "Our goal is to initiate and ensure parking at hospitals. We want to maximize support for the creation of spaces. Wherever we are the investors, we will strive to set up a reasonable parking system," added Hladík.

A garage with 500 spaces is planned in Bohunice and another with 220 spaces at the Trauma Hospital. The city has also agreed with the Ministry of Health to build a parking garage for about 100 million in the area of the Children's Hospital. It will have space for about 300 cars, and drivers will likely pay 20 crowns per hour for parking. There is also talk of its use by residents for evening parking.

According to Hladík, the parking garages could generally serve residents at night. For example, in Bohunice, one section could also serve as a P+R parking lot. Here, drivers can leave their cars for a smaller fee and continue by public transport. The aim of park and ride facilities is to get cars out of the city center.
