Brno – Two parking garages will be constructed in Brno for tens of millions. One in Líšeň at the corner of Vlkova and Sedláčkova streets, the other in Nový Lískovec on Jihlavská street. Each will offer 200 parking spaces. This was announced to reporters by the deputy mayors of the city districts.

The Líšeň parking garage will be two stories high. It will be built on the site of the current parking lot. “We have identified a location that is really critical in terms of parking. It is a relatively cramped panel housing development, where due to the increase in the number of cars, there is basically no possibility to expand the existing parking lots,” said the deputy mayor of the Brno-Líšeň district, Martin Příborský (ODS). The total cost of approximately 39 million Czech crowns will be covered 80 percent by the city council, with the remainder being paid by the city district.

The councilors are preparing the project, and construction will begin next year. The building will accommodate over 200 cars. According to the project, access to the upper floor will be from Vlkova Street. This part will have free parking spaces for the public. Parking on the lower floor will be rented out by the city. “Depending on the interest of the people, we will decide how much space we allocate for this type of parking and how much it will cost,” added Příborský.

In Nový Lískovec, a three-story residential parking garage will be built, with councilors hoping it will resolve parking issues around the university campus. “It primarily concerns the pressure on parking spaces in Oblá and Svážná streets, which are the most overloaded. We have been preparing this project since 2016 when the first study was created, but we were waiting for a change in the zoning plan,” stated the deputy mayor of the Brno - Nový Lískovec district, Petr Punčochář (ODS).

The councilors have selected the design firm and prepared the site. The construction will cost between 85 to 90 million, reflecting the rise in material prices and services in the construction sector. Once again, 80 percent of the total amount will be covered by the city council and 20 percent by the city district. Construction is set to begin next year, with completion expected in 2024. According to Punčochář, this will be the largest investment project in the territory of Nový Lískovec.

Even though both locations will have parking garages with 200 spaces, in Lískovec it will cost about double. Punčochář explained that in Líšeň they will be building on the area of the current parking lot and adding one floor, while in Lískovec they plan to build on grass and have three floors, one of which will be underground.
