Brno – A new city park costing 30 million crowns will be created by the end of next year between the Brno streets Kalová, Škrobárenská, and Dornych. It will be developed jointly by Brno and the developer CTP Ponávka Business Park (CTP).
The park will be partially on city-owned land and partially on land owned by the developer. “The collaboration with CTP, which we have approved, marks a significant step forward in preparing the construction. The company has committed to prepare the project documentation at its own expense and will also lend the city its land for 30 years free of charge so that we can properly care for the park,” stated Hladík. CTP will contribute five million crowns to the project, while the city will cover the remaining 25 million. Representatives of the Public Greenery of the City of Brno and representatives of the Brno-South district are also involved in the final form of the study.
At the same time, the meander of the Stará Ponávka river will also be restored in the area. A bridge will be built across the river on the north side, connecting the park with Dornych street. “The Stará Ponávka river refers to Brno’s industrial past, and not much has survived on its surface. Therefore, the revitalization of the exposed sections of this stream is one of the city's strategic projects,” said Brno Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS).
“There is a steep slope in this area, and Ponáva is located quite deep. We agreed that if everything goes well, we will create a water surface there that could freeze in winter, allowing for skating,” added the Mayor's deputy Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL).
