Uherské Hradiště – Uherské Hradiště plans to build a natural amphitheater in Rochus Park. It will cost more than eight million crowns, with an expected grant from the Interreg V-A Slovakia – Czech Republic program that should cover 90 percent of the costs. The intention was approved by the council today, with all 26 present councilors voting in favor.
According to the city's representatives, the amphitheater will complement the infrastructure of the Rochus open-air museum for hosting cultural events for the public. The planned works include land modifications, the construction of seating and a stage, the building of service roads, installation of lighting, and landscaping. Uherské Hradiště is collaborating on the project with the Slovak city of Púchov, which is working to restore its amphitheater in the Lachovec forest park for approximately 3.3 million crowns.
According to the mayor of Uherské Hradiště, Stanislav Blaha (ODS), there are plans for joint cultural events in both new areas. "An important part of the project will also be the creation of a product in the form of a tourist route Uherské Hradiště - Púchov, which will promote interesting locations along this connection with natural and cultural tourism potential," said Blaha. The project is expected to be fully completed by August 2023.
On Friday, October 15, the deadline will end for submitting applications for grants from the cross-border cooperation program. If it is not approved, the project will not be realized, and Uherské Hradiště will seek other sources of funding for the construction of the amphitheater.
Uherské Hradiště started revamping the former training area on Rochus Hill in 2010, when traditional Slovácko varieties were planted. A year earlier, the city renovated the chapel of Saint Roch, later the roads and other infrastructure. The open-air museum Rochus has been open to visitors since 2016. It offers exhibitions of traditional folk architecture from various periods from the end of the 19th century to the mid-20th century.
