Uherské Hradiště – The Town Hall in Uherské Hradiště is preparing to restore the façade of the former synagogue in the city center, which is a cultural monument. The building houses the Bedřich Beneš Buchlovan library. The last time workers repaired the synagogue's façade was 19 years ago, and it is now in poor condition. The city will seek grants from the Ministry of Culture to carry out the repairs. The estimated costs are in the range of several million crowns, said city hall spokesman Jan Pášma today.

The condition of the building was addressed by the city's councilors at their last meeting. "We are looking for suitable projects from which we can draw funds from the Urban Heritage Zone and Reservation Regeneration Program from the Ministry of Culture, and the library is being discussed as a suitable project that we will definitely address,” said Mayor Stanislav Blaha (ODS). The city would also like to include the roof of the building in the library renovations.

The façade of the former synagogue was last repaired by craftsmen in 2002, and the original dome was restored two years later. Today, the building's façade is pink and white, but after the reconstruction, it will likely return to its original color. "Heritage conservationists concluded that the façade should be in gray-blue with white decorative elements based on their research. However, details of how exactly the library's façade should look will come with the project for the restoration of the building's shell, which ideally will be completed this year," Pášma stated.

The synagogue was built in the Neo-Romanesque style in 1875. Its current appearance dates back to a radical reconstruction in 1904. The single-nave hall building with a rectangular floor plan is dominated by a renewed tower structure with a dome.
