Brno - A bus stop shelter designed in the shape of an "octopus," inspired by the late architect Jan Kaplický, is to be installed in Brno in June. The idea to use Kaplický's design for the Prague National Library for the bus stop came from law student Martin Felgr, who won a competition with it. The installation is supported by the Brno-north district. The aim is to have both the widow of the deceased architect, Eliška Kaplická, and his girlfriend, architect Eva Jiřičná, present at the ceremonial opening, said mayor Sabina Tomíšková (ODS) to reporters today. The stop in its new form is expected to be fully operational in the second half of June, according to the mayor. The shelter will be located at the Loosova stop in the Lesná housing estate. The council of the Brno-north district has already discussed a proposal for a future donation agreement from the company that created the stop. The idea for the design of the stop originated from a competition organized by Pepsi, which ensured the production. The possibility of the structure appearing in Brno had been discussed earlier, but the previous leadership of the Brno-north district rejected the proposal, according to Tomíšková. "After the change in leadership, we revived this activity and our district expressed interest," she stated. The installation was also supported last year by the widow of the architect, Eliška Kaplická. She appreciated that young people had not forgotten Kaplický's design for the National Library but had creatively adapted it. "It has been proven that Jan's designs continue to inspire people. They have always attracted young people with their unconventionality and progressiveness," she wrote.
