Domažlice - In Domažlice, the reconstruction of the historic brewery into a multipurpose center has begun. The builder has taken over the site and by June of next year, the dominant tower section, the so-called brewery grove, where malt used to be dried, will be repaired. For 25 million crowns, a multi-story vertical gallery and staircase, an elevator, and technical and social facilities for the entire future complex will be created in the grove. The city received a grant of 15 million crowns from the EU for the first phase, said Mayor Miroslav Mach (Association for the City of Domažlice) to ČTK. The entire project envisions that the dilapidated brewery, dating back to the 18th century, will gradually transform into a center with exhibition and museum spaces, a library, and a cultural hall. However, the building is also to return to its original purpose. The city wants to build a brewery and restaurant there. The complete reconstruction is expected to cost around 90 million. "We have prepared the projects, and we will now wait and find out what EU funding titles we could gradually utilize for the next phases. We would like to continue the repairs smoothly," said Mach. The tower of the grove, topped with a chimney, will be repaired first. Besides modern spaces and technical facilities, industrial remnants such as gears and transmissions will remain in the interior. The glazed ground floor will allow a view of the brewing technology that will later be created there. "Everything in the grove will be completely repaired - the roof, the rafters, which are affected by wood rot. It will be the main communication space, from which access to other parts will be provided," described the mayor. In the next stage of repairs, the city aims to create a spacious library for adults and children, a restaurant, and a cultural hall in two large wooden halls of the former barley warehouses. In several floors of the exhibition spaces in the grove, the city would like to commemorate the history of Domažlice, the significant Hussite battle near Domažlice, and the history of Hussitism.
