Doha - In Qatar, two buildings will be constructed based on the design of the Iraqi-born architect Zaha Hadid. One of them will be a tower in the shape of a desert hyacinth, which will be located near the site where the final match of the World Cup will be played in 2022. This was announced today by the brother of the Qatari emir, Sheikh Muhammad bin Hamad Al Thani. Hadid, who was a British citizen of Iraqi descent, passed away this year at the age of 65.

According to her design, a shopping center is also planned to be built in Prague, near Masaryk Station.

For Qatar, Hadid designed a thirty-eight-story building, which will have 200 hotel rooms and 120 apartments. It is to be built in the newly developing coastal city of Lusail, which will be located 23 kilometers from downtown Doha. More than 400,000 people are expected to live in the area, which spans over 35 square kilometers.

Hadid's firm ZHA is preparing designs for the construction of a tower in the city's port area. Completion is expected in 2020. The shape of the building is inspired by the desert hyacinth found in the Persian Gulf region. From a wider base, a nine-petaled elongated flower rises, covered by a decorative structure with views.

"In our creations, we often draw inspiration from the shapes of nature, from its logic and coherence," Hadid said at the time regarding the emerging project. She passed away this March, and Patrik Schumacher is now leading the firm. ZHA is currently working on 36 projects in 21 countries, including the Prague shopping center and a technology park in Moscow.
