Liberec - The reconstruction of the city's Liebieg Palace in Liberec, which took two years and cost more than a quarter of a billion crowns, has been completed. The company selected by the city hall still needs to furnish it with furniture and other equipment, which will take until the end of March next year. Jana Kodymová, the spokesperson for the city hall, said this to ČTK today.

The reconstruction of the palace, built 150 years ago as the Liebieg family's residence, is the largest investment in Liberec in recent years. The city covered most of the costs with European grants. The spacious, historically protected building has been empty since 2014, when the regional Gallery of Fine Arts moved out.

The new purpose of the building will be a municipal community center designed for meetings of people from various social groups and all age generations. Construction workers have been renovating it for this purpose since September 2020. "The city of Liberec has taken over the reconstructed Liebieg Palace after two years, and the future manager of the building is getting acquainted with the spaces," Kodymová said.

If there are no complications in furnishing it with furniture and other equipment, individual parts of the building will gradually start operating as a community center in the spring of next year. The palace will be managed by the city's contributory organization Community Center Contact, which plans to fully launch the so-called Center for Active Leisure in September 2023.

Inside the palace, there will be a large hall, an art studio with a workshop, exhibition spaces, computer and multipurpose rooms, as well as two gymnasiums. There will also be a café and a gardening club with a ceramic kiln and a restored greenhouse.
