In Liberec, the reconstruction of the Liebieg Palace will be completed

Liberec - In Liberec, the reconstruction of the Liebieg Palace into a community center will be completed next year, and in Zákupy, the first stage of the restoration of the castle farmyard, which is a national cultural monument, will finish. After two years of reconstruction, the main building of the museum in Česká Lípa should be accessible again, and after a two-year hiatus, the Benátská festival may also take place. The largest music event in the region did not occur last year or this year due to measures related to the coronavirus pandemic.

A significant change awaits the botanical garden and zoo in Liberec, the oldest of their kind in the country, on January 1. Upon the transfer of four contribution organizations with the city, they will come under the management of the Liberecký kraj (Liberec Region). The zoo, in particular, hopes that the change of the founder will assist in its development. This is also because Liberec will contribute 25 million crowns annually to its investments for at least another ten years.

Starting from March next year, the Regional Museum in Česká Lípa should be accessible again, including a new exhibition dedicated to uranium mining, which will be in the basement. The main building has been closed since the beginning of 2020 due to partial reconstruction aimed at reducing energy consumption costs. Among other things, craftsmen have replaced all 120 to 130 windows of the museum, which is located in a former Augustinian monastery.

The first phase of the restoration of the dilapidated farmyard at the castle in Zákupy for more than 174 million crowns is expected to finish in the autumn of 2022. Craftsmen are working on saving its most valuable part, which is the former stable in the southern wing. It is approximately 150 meters long. Once the work is completed, there will be public exhibitions focused on transportation and extinct castles.

Around the same time, the reconstruction of the Liebieg Palace into a community center in Liberec, costing more than a quarter of a billion crowns, is expected to finish. After the reconstruction, the palace will become a meeting place for people ranging from children to seniors and various social groups. Inside the palace, there will be a large hall, an art studio with a workshop, exhibition spaces, computer and multipurpose rooms, two gymnasiums, as well as a café or gardening club with a ceramic oven and a refurbished greenhouse.

Like last year and this year, the uncertainty regarding the further development of the coronavirus epidemic threatens the holding of cultural events next year. Among the largest events in Liberec should be the prestigious international festival of animated films Anifilm at the beginning of May and the music festival Benátská! at the end of July. The festival organizers want to rely on proven stars of domestic music. During the last held edition in 2019, over 40,000 people visited Benátská in Liberec - Vesec.
