Liberec – Liberec received only one bid for the project to convert the unused Liebieg Palace into a community center. The bidder demands 168.2 million crowns excluding VAT. This comes from data from the public procurement records system. Deputy Mayor Radka Loučková Kotasová (ANO) told ČTK today that the competition is not yet closed and that more information cannot be provided at this time. According to her, they must first assess whether the bid meets all the conditions.

Liebieg Palace has been empty since 2014 when the Regional Gallery moved out. The city hall wants the neo-Renaissance palace, after a complete renovation, to become a meeting place for people of various ages, from children to seniors, and different social groups. The palace should be restored to its original appearance from the outside, and inside there will be a new large hall, an art studio with a workshop, exhibition spaces, computer and multifunctional rooms, two gymnasiums, and a gardening club with a ceramic kiln and greenhouse. There will also be a café and a children's corner, and the courtyard and garden will be renovated.

The spacious building was commissioned by factory owner Johann Liebieg nearly 140 years ago. If the city hall accepts the bidder's offer, work on its reconstruction should begin this autumn. The deputy mayor previously stated that they hope to complete the renovation by April 2022 if no complications arise. "It's a historical building, no one knows what will come up, and we know that constructions, especially historical ones, are accompanied by difficulties," said Loučková Kotasová.
