Proposal for the revitalization of the square by the studio Rehwaldt Landschaftsarchitekten
Mnichovo Hradiště – In Mnichovo Hradiště in the Mladá Boleslav region, the second stage of the reconstruction of Masaryk Square begins. Costs will amount to 25 million crowns, transforming the area between the town hall block, the post office, and the school. The first stage took place last year, and the total repair of the square in three stages will cost about 52 million, said Mayor Ondřej Lochman (We Live for Hradiště) to ČTK.
The first stage took place from May to December last year. This year, the work will focus on the northern and northeastern parts of the square, unifying the surfaces, replacing public lighting, creating new parking spaces, and installing furniture, such as benches illuminated with LED strips.
The dominant feature of the northern part of the square will be a grove of 21 ornamental apple trees. They will be planted in the location where bus stops were in operation just a few months ago. Trees will also be planted on the side of the square in front of the school, which will consist of pear trees. The statue of Václav Budovec of Budov, which has been in the castle garden for decades, will also return to the square.
The town hall is seeking to obtain an eighty percent grant. The contractor is, as in the first phase, the construction company H-Intes from Mladá Boleslav, which will subsequently repair the remaining part of the square.
The second phase of repairs is associated with significant traffic restrictions. Since Monday, Víta Nejedlého Street has been closed from the intersection with Družstevní Street to the intersection with the regional road II/277, which is designated as Turnovská in the city. The Poříčská Street will also be completely closed from the intersection with Víta Nejedlého Street to the parking lot behind the hotel U Hroznu.
The first phase of adjustments included the southern part of the square, from the intersection with Víta Nejedlého Street to the intersection of Turnovská and Jiráskova Streets. There is now better traffic accessibility, wide sidewalks have been added, accommodating benches, gardens, and flower pots. Granite was used as the main building material.
The bus stops have also changed their locations. Buses used to stop in the square in front of the post office, even during driver breaks. A new terminal near the train station now serves for bus parking, while buses only stop in new bays between Turnovská and Víta Nejedlého Streets.
