Brno - The park on Janáčkovo náměstí in Brno, adjacent to architecturally significant buildings, is awaiting revitalization. The investment of 15 million crowns was initiated in December by the city district Brno-střed, which manages the park. Completion is expected in the spring of next year. New park paths, furniture, and greenery will be implemented. Plans also include establishing new lawns and a perennial flowerbed, as stated today in a press release by Deputy Mayor Ludmila Oulehlová (ANO), who oversees environmental matters.
"The modifications also include the replacement of public lighting poles and the installation of a drinking fountain," Oulehlová mentioned. According to her, the upgrades will significantly enhance the park's ability to absorb and retain rainwater. The reconstruction project was designed by Eva Wagnerová, and the construction is being carried out by the company Zemako. The investment is co-funded by the city district together with the city, which covers more than two-thirds of the amount.
The park square is associated with the composer Leoš Janáček, who lived there and founded an organ school. The park consists of two parts. The first is bordered by the building of the rectorate of the Brno University of Technology and the Memorial of Leoš Janáček with the Chleborád Villa. The second part is the area in front of the Institute of Musicology at Masaryk University between Antonínská and Mezírka streets.
"We want to build on the successful revitalization of the nearby park on Moravské náměstí and create an exceptional environment for rest and relaxation here as well. The area surrounding the monument of architect Adolf Loos and the sculpture of Liška Bystrouška also deserves a dignified arrangement," said the mayor of the city district, Vojtěch Mencl (ODS). The town hall also plans to transform the space in front of the gymnasium on Vídeňská street and at the elementary school on Úvoz in the near future. At the same time, preparations for the overall reconstruction of Park Danuše Muzikářové are being finalized.
