After a really long time, Prague will get a new observation tower with the working title Doubravka. It will be a unique wooden structure almost 22 meters high, which Prague 14 plans to place as a landmark of a new leisure area in the Na Čihadlech location above the Rokytka river, according to the design of the famous architect Martin Rajniš. To verify the original structural elements and the entire design of the tower in practice, the team of architect Rajniš from the Architecture Workshop will begin constructing a test object this Sunday, June 8, on the banks of Kyjský pond. It will be an approximately 12-meter structure that a group of twenty students from three faculties of architecture will start building from spontaneous tree growth.
If Doubravka is realized, Prague 14 will gain a complete unique - almost all of architect Rajniš's constructions have received considerable space and response, whether it is the Post Office on Sněžka, the Bára II observation tower in Chrudim, or the Lighthouse and museum of Jára Cimrman in Příchovice. Each realization is an original and a new approach to working with renewable material - wood. Moreover, just a few days ago in Paris, he received the International Award for Sustainable Architecture for his vision…
“I perceive the observation tower as a landmark that is currently missing in our district. Therefore, we decided to collaborate with architect Rajniš, who is known for his bold approach and the use of natural materials. I am convinced that the tower and its surroundings will become an attractive place not only for our residents but also for other Praguers, showing Prague 14 as a place where something is always happening and where it is pleasant to live,” says Mayor Radek Vondra.
The planned tower will be alongside the successful project Rajský vrch, the revitalization of the park Na Čihadlech and near Kyjský pond, the areas of Hloubětín, and other places whose restoration is already underway or will soon begin, further evidence of the attractiveness of Prague 14. In the future, it wants to discuss the conceptual intention of the tower's construction with its citizens.
Residents will be able to observe a workshop with students who will participate in the construction starting June 8 on the banks of Kyjský pond. At the same time, they will be able to see a presentation of the genesis of the Doubravka design and other realizations by Martin Rajniš and his team. The exhibition will be supplemented with informational panels from the Department of Development of the Prague 14 district, introducing several new revitalization projects, leisure and sports activities, or greenery in the areas of Černý Most, Kyje, or Hloubětín.
The results of the students' work and the team from the Architecture Workshop will be displayed just two weeks later over the weekend from June 20 to 22. Here, visitors will receive more detailed information about the project and the specifics of the tower itself - the current program will be published on the website of the Prague 14 district.
The partner for the design and implementation is Landia Management s.r.o., which is currently launching the sale of apartments in two new projects in Prague 9 and 14, specifically Rajský vrch and Živé Letňany.
