Ostrava – Unconventional tours of exhibitions and backgrounds, creative workshops, and concerts will be offered at the Ostrava Museum Night, which will take place on Saturday, August 28. Entry to 22 cultural institutions and monuments will be free, but advance reservations are required for selected activities, and in many locations, visitors will need to present proof of no infection. This was announced by Jana Malášek Šrubařová, spokesperson for the Gallery of Fine Arts in Ostrava.
"The festival offers adults guided and free tours, lectures, practical demonstrations of crafts, film screenings, and concerts. Children will enjoy creative workshops and artistic and musical workshops of all kinds, they can try firefighting, explore the backstage of the theater and the library’s cellar, and enjoy quizzes, puzzles, and adventures," said Šrubařová.
The program, which will last until midnight in some places, will start at 3:30 PM at the Ostrava Museum. The ceremonial opening of the event will be at 5:30 PM in front of the New City Hall building at Prokešovo Square, where a program with concerts and a drumming show will be prepared, as well as the opportunity to climb the town hall tower.
The Ostrava Museum Night is taking place after a one-year break caused by the coronavirus pandemic. "I hope that after the temporary, coronavirus-enforced lull in cultural and social activities, this year’s Ostrava Museum Night will attract a great interest from visitors," said Ostrava mayor Tomáš Macura (ANO).
This year's festival will involve, for example, Důl Michal, the Fire Museum of the City of Ostrava, the Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava, and the House of Culture of the City of Ostrava. For instance, the National Agricultural Museum (NZM) will prepare chemical experiments and a discussion with photographer Jindřich Štreit. "From 8:00 PM to 12:00 AM, visitors can expect a Night Shift not only in the field but also at the brewery," said NZM spokesperson Jitka Taussiková.
Three free museum bus routes will run between the institutions. In addition, the transport company will operate rides on historic buses, trolleybuses, and trams, where a ticket will cost 50 crowns; however, for technical reasons, its workshops will be closed this year.
