Valašské Meziříčí (Vsetínsko) - The town hall in Valašské Meziříčí in the Vsetín region wants to completely renovate the central square, including the adjacent Mostní street and other smaller streets. A new funeral hall is also expected to serve at the central cemetery. The city leadership aims to obtain grants for both projects from European or state funds, Deputy Mayor Jiří Pernický said today to ČTK. The square has not undergone any significant changes since the 1970s, and several cultural and sports events take place there every year. "For this reason, we would like the square to become a more representative landmark of the city," remarked the deputy mayor. The town hall is still considering the future appearance of the square; architecture students have proposed possible solutions, which the citizens of the city expressed their opinions on in a survey and during a public discussion. "People agreed with the city leadership that the square should be a space where people can meet during various events," Pernický stated. The estimated costs for the reconstruction are around 30 million crowns. The town hall would like to build a new funeral hall at the cemetery primarily because the existing hall is in technically inadequate condition. The capacity of the ceremonial hall is also insufficient. The city has not yet quantified the costs for establishing the new space.
