In the C metro station Florenc, there will be a new artwork, the form will be known in September

Prague - The renovated vestibule of the Prague metro station C Florenc will feature a new piece of artwork. The form of the light object will now be sought by the transport company (DPP) in collaboration with the Gallery of the Capital City of Prague (GHMP) through an artistic competition. This was announced today by DPP spokeswoman Aneta Řehková. Interested parties may apply until April 21, and the winner is to be announced in September this year. The competition will be organized as a so-called competitive dialogue, where more competitors will participate in the selection. DPP is repairing the station's ceiling slab and the vestibule as well.

The subject of the contract is the design of an artwork in the form of a light object for the passage connecting the northern and southern vestibules of the metro station C Florenc. The winner will also prepare a complete project, deliver the artwork, and install and commission it.

"We expect that the design of the new artwork will draw from high-quality to revolutionary projects that were once present in the Prague metro. Like the legendary biometric light object in the ceiling of the Náměstí Míru station vestibule. It was unfortunately removed in the 1990s to make way for a kiosk," said Deputy Mayor Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates).

All applicants who meet the conditions will be invited by the organizer to develop and submit a document describing the future works from the perspective of the quality of the artistic intention and the quality of the technological solution concept. The submitted proposals will be evaluated by a jury, which will select four finalists. They will then be tasked with developing a detailed final design of the work, including the concept of the technological solution and cost estimates. Two workshops will take place in this phase of the competition. An eight-member jury will decide on the winner.

In recent years, for example, DPP commissioned a large painting to artistically decorate the technical facility at the metro station C Opatov. A so-called mural also appeared at the entrance to the metro station C Vltavská, where a glass sculpture was also repaired.
