Moravský Krumlov (Znojmo) - Representatives of Moravský Krumlov hope that the Slav Epic, the monumental work of painter Alphonse Mucha, will be exhibited in the local castle for at least the upcoming season. Prague, which owns the collection of 20 canvases, announced that it will extend the loan agreement with the Krumlov City Hall not for a year, as has been the custom for years, but only until the end of June. In the meantime, they will try to find a place for the exhibition of the epic. Krumlov's mayor Jaroslav Mokrý is convinced that suitable spaces will not be found so quickly. He stated this today to ČTK. The epic has been on display in the Krumlov castle for 45 years, since the time when the canvases were restored there. Mucha bequeathed the work to the nation through Prague. His will states that there must be a suitable exhibition built for the paintings. However, the capital does not have such a space. Nevertheless, its representatives are considering relocating the paintings. They should be exhibited at the Prague exhibition grounds. Moravský Krumlov would likely have already lost the epic if the Industrial Palace at the exhibition grounds had not burned down last year. Prague is currently negotiating with the Incheba company about the restoration of the palace. Krumlov's representatives point out that the current facilities at the exhibition grounds are not suitable for presenting the epic. Mokrý now wants to conduct negotiations with Incheba as soon as possible. The company is the owner of the Krumlov castle. Some time ago, without further explanation, it terminated the lease agreement with the city hall for the exhibition of the epic in the Knights' Hall of the building. The termination will be valid from April, when the castle is supposed to reopen to tourists heading to Moravský Krumlov to view the epic after the winter break. Some residents of South Moravia also oppose the relocation of the epic to Prague. A petition against this intention has already been signed by 3,000 people.
