Vsetín residents can decide on the shape of Svobody Square

Vsetín - The decision regarding the new shape of Svobody Square in Vsetín will also involve the citizens of the city themselves. They can choose from two architectural studies of the mentioned space, which are on display from today until the end of August in the lobby of the Vatra cinema. This was reported to ČTK by the spokesperson of the Vsetín town hall, Eva Stejskalová.
    The studies were developed by architects from Block based on the requirements and comments of Vsetín city council members. They were prepared in two versions. The new solution for the space aims to enhance its attractiveness, provide barrier-free access, increase greenery and resting places, and incorporate water features.
    “In the first alternative, Svobody Square is designed as a playful artistic composition of various surfaces offering opportunities for staying, movement, aesthetic experience, and relaxation, while the second places more emphasis on existing communication routes,” explained architect Petr Osička.
    Both variants also differ in the way they connect the town hall building and the cultural house. “In the first proposal, the buildings are connected by a simple prism-shaped glass corridor, which is supported by a distinctive and unique amorphous object; in the second case, the space of Svárov Street is divided by a new construction volume, a glass twin of the municipal office building,” added the architect.
    According to Stejskalová, city officials have already debated the studies vigorously, and now citizens can also express their opinions. “People can support one of the variants, or they may write their own opinion,” said the head of the investment and development department, Josef Šťastný.
    However, Vsetín's mayor Květoslava Othová previously pointed out that if the city receives European grants for the reconstruction of the square and its surroundings, it will still have to conduct a tender for the final shape of the entire locality.
