Jihlava - The Polytechnic School (VŠP) in Jihlava is preparing to start the first phase of work on the construction of a university campus on the site of the former hospital adjacent to the school. First, a regional professional technical library with the necessary facilities, lecture halls, and classrooms should be established on the site of the former technical operations of the hospital. The project is expected to be completed within the next year. Engineering work on the site could begin at the end of 2007. This was stated today by the rector (VŠP) Ladislav Jirků. The total costs are expected to reach approximately 800 million crowns. Most of it should be covered by grants from European funds, along with contributions from state subsidies and private investors. The professional library will be created by renovating the buildings of the former hospital laundry, kitchen, and workshops. "The anticipated costs will amount to approximately 250 million to 300 million crowns," Jirků stated. A similar cost will be required for the university dormitories with a capacity of about 450 beds. The new dormitory building will be situated along Fritzova street. In the last entirely new independent building, the school plans to construct a large auditorium with a capacity of around 300 seats, including facilities for organizing conferences. The project to build the campus will also include a major reconstruction of the existing school building. The school will gain new classroom spaces by modifying the attic, while the cafeteria and the current auditorium will undergo renovations.
